Frostbite
Tiny ice crystals coat each narrow branch
that grows tentatively from the tree
where our initials were never carved.
It's a soft freeze--
barely perceptible
to the naked eye,
but that thin layer of frozen dew
has been enough to hinder movement
for seventeen long years.
