The Boggart

Crumbling like leaves in gutters my shrinking stomach grumbles,
Mumbling while I putter, from the bed, to floor, darkness stumbles
My thoughts are grape jelly congealing to rubbery elasticity
I light my ear like a candle and sail through the opacity
The walking night, right next to me, hiding behind my head
Lurking around every corner and snoozing under the bed....

Clams

Or was that claims? Anyway, just ignore this post as I'm simply doing a Technorati claim so that more people can learn about Poetry Club.

Millennial Poetics Blog Series: 9 Principles For Writing Poetry

Allen Taylor, founder of the Millennial School of Poetry, has started a nine-part series of blog posts/essays on the 9 principles of poetics. The 9 principles of Millennial poetics include:

1. Craft is of utmost importance
2. There is no room for prejudice
3. Form is just another element of craft
4. Creativity and craft go hand in hand
5. No topic is taboo
6. There is no such thing as language that is too archaic
7. All poems are individuals
8. There is no acceptable method to writing poetry
9. All convention should be shunned

The first four principles have been post. You can begin the Millennial School of Poetics series and easily navigate them in succession as Allen writes a new post in the series every day at World Class Poetry Blog.

Poetics: The 7 Essential Elements Of Poetry

It’s been awhile, but I’ve read Aristotle’s Poetics. It is one of my all-time favorite philosophical works related to the arts. Kurdish Aspect has a brilliant blog post on the ancient Greek philosopher’s treatise and how it relates to film making. It got me thinking about what is important in poetry. According to Plato’s main man, the seven essential elements of Greek storytelling included:
  • Plot
  • Character
  • Theme
  • Dialog
  • Music
  • Design
  • Spectacle
See how each of these 7 elements of poetry can be implemented into every poem you write at World Class Poetry Blog.

Poetics Vs. Politics: I Just Have This To Say About That

Sharon Brogan posted a poem on her website and received some feedback. It’s an excellent poem. It grabs you right from the beginning:

Don’t those pollsters know that married women lie in the presence of their husbands?
